Welcome

Welcome to the website of the North Staffordshire Group of the Geologists’ Association.

The NSGGA is the regional group of the Geologists’ Association in North Staffordshire.

Lecture meetings are held monthly during the autumn and winter, at 7.30pm in the William Smith Building at Keele University.

Field meetings are held at approximately monthly intervals over the spring and summer.

GA Awards

The GA has announced that it is introducing three new awards schemes for its members.  The new schemes are designed primarily to attract the highest quality research applications, to encourage new members to join, to raise the profile of geology in all arenas through various kinds of dissemination and to reinforce the GA through acknowledgement of our support in the various outputs generated.

The new schemes comprise
(1) The GA New Researchers Awards (open to student members)
(2) The GA Research Fund (open to full members)
(3) The GA Meetings Fund (open to all members).

These complement the existing Curry Fund awards by encouraging research and academic dissemination, thereby extending the range of activities that the GA supports.

Summer Field Series: 2012

Next Trip:
Dudley Museum & Wren’s Nest
Saturday June 23, 2012

The trip should convene in the reception of Dudley Museum and art Gallery at 10.45am and we'll have a look at the new exhibits and handle some objects from the collection until about 12:45pm when we'll break for lunch while we have access to toilets and the eating opportunities of the town.

We will re-convene at the Mons Hill College car park at 1:30pm where we'll have a walk around the new trails and features that have been installed as part of the Ripples Through Time HLF supported project work that has been happening over the last few months.  We will of course also do some fossil hunting and talk about our new discoveries and researches along the way.

More details in the bulletin.

Please Note:
Each person attending field meetings does so on the understanding that they attend at their own risk. The NSGGA has public liability insurance through a GA insurance policy that also carries limited personal accident cover for members attending meetings or field trips. Non-members pay £2 to cover temporary membership giving them insurance cover.

A field fee of £2 per head is normally charged for members and non-members to cover leader’s expenses.
